Fejd - Huldran
(from www.lira.se)

How to build the perfect atmosphere
On their first release they showed they can play folk metal like every other folk metal band. They showed their talents with acoustics, their folk melodies and their ability to create amazing atmosphere. So what's next? Take those abilities and perfect them. Which they nearly do with 'Huldran'.
Right away the intro track sets the mood. The vocals sung with passion and the willow-pipes shows the atmosphere the album is going to create. It's apparent that this isn't your average music but the soundtrack used to swiftly put you back into the time of the fur wearing, tree chopping townspeople who once occupied the earth.
After the short "intro" track your exposed to 'Äring' which, right away, hits you with one hell of a catchy melody. The entire song is chocked full of excellent folk instruments. It maybe noticeable that the vocals sound abit "dull" but it is soon seen that it suits the music perfectly.
But it is not just 'Äring' that includes the incredibly catchy melodies. Every song shows the excellent musicianship of these men. 'Huldran' has a catchy chorus that is sung greatly by the vocalist and has you itching to hit the repeat button to hear it again and again.
The instrumental tracks 'Jären' and 'Rimfaxe' show that these guys know how to construct catchy melodies without the addition of vocals. They are put here to truly show off their display of the other instruments you may not notice in the other songs as the vocals are very strong and stand out. They are both excellent jam sessions.
The excellently played out intro to 'Bed För Din Själ' really shows that the band want to perfect each instrument to create the perfect atmosphere. The song is filled with excellent drumming, probably the best of their entire discography. It's well timed and never loses a beat. The song as a whole plays out abit like a "folk ballad".
The outro is a short (less than a minute) track which includes the mystic sound of willow-pipes.
It really shows that these guys are going in the right direction. It may not be music for the masses but those who find and listen to this will full appreciated it. It's absolutely beautiful and every instrument is used greatly in creating the perfect atmosphere. If future releases sound like this, count me in.
